How do i award a default gateway for my internet connection?
today, i stuffed the internet connection on my computer, all the other connections on the other computers work spanking (using netgear modem), but i know what my problem is, my INTERNET GATEWAY icon isnt coming up in network connections & in ipconfig in cmd it hasnt got a oversight gateway address, so can anyone help me? how do i assign the gateway? ive got the gateway address, i just don't know how to assign it! :(
thanks in advance! please bolster me!
The default gateway address is assigned by DHCP. If your computer is using this method to get an IP and it isn't getting a gateway, then the router is not doing it's job and needs to be pent-up. To manually set a default gateway, you will also have to assign a static IP address and DNS server address to the computer. To do this on either XP or Vista, you will need to go to the Control Pane (getting here is different for each) and select the Network Connections applet. Choose your internet interface (assuming you may have more than one listes) and moral-click and select properties. This will open the connection properties sheet. In the list of items installed you will edit Internet Protocol (IPv4 on Vista) and again click the properties. This will open the place you will need to enter the computer's static IP and Gateway and DNS. Unless you are an avant-garde computer user and can troubleshoot computer networks well, this action is not advised. Setting a static IP on a network with an unmanaged DHCP platter can create a duplicate IP address error and prevent both computers from accessing the internet.
My advice would be to find someone with the knowledge and facility to enter the router setup utility and configure it to properly assign the comptuers the addresses using DHCP. I would be avid to help you do this at no charge to you. All you would need to is get a remote desktop sharing program like TeamViewer and contact me via this conference or via email with the information.
